LabES has as main goals the research, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Software Engineering. Research is focused on several areas, proposing new processes, techniques, methods, and tools that support the development of software systems. Examples of research topics are software verification, validation, and testing, software quality, software reuse, software architecture, reference architecture, patterns, frameworks, software product line, model-driven development, systems-of-systems engineering, Internet of Things, Cloud of Things, software engineering teaching, software engineering applied to the education, among others.

The Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação (ICMC) at University of São Paulo (USP) is one of the most important Brazilian institutions in the fields of Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
